Chef Jay's Tri-O-Plex Duo Bars Review By Matt Canning
Many people begin a workout program and are unaware of the importance of nutrition as part of an effective overall bodybuilding routine. There is an expression that goes "abs are made in the gym and not in the kitchen" and while this is true for abs, this statement can be generalized to include every muscle group - nutrition is truly 90% of bodybuilding. What I mean by this is that if you follow a perfect bodybuilding diet and slack off in your training, you will make far better gains than putting yourself on an intense workout program and not eating a proper bodybuilding diet. The "secrets" of a bodybuilding diet are basic - eat a lot of healthy whole foods and eat frequent small meals which include these foods. Of course I can go on here, but my point is that the basics truly are most of it and there really are very few "secrets", if any. Some people have difficulty following these basic routines, and for them, there are a variety of supplements which might be of interest to them.
The Chef Jay's Tri-O-Plex Duo Bars are a great supplement for those wishing to fulfill their nutritional quota with a great tasting treat - each bar contains a whopping 359 calories! That in itself is almost enough to qualify as a small meal, and with the addition of a glass of milk and a piece of fruit you would really be able to say that - if eaten alone, 359 calories is still pretty good! Only 99 of these calories are from fat (11 grams of fat in total), which is better than I've seen of other protein bars. Each bar contains 24 grams of protein, and that will be what is most likely of interest to those wishing to include protein bars and supplements in their diet, and an additional 41 grams are from carbohydrates.
The flavour which I tried was "Rocky Road", and the Duo Bars also come in "Bursting Peanut Butter" flavour. Despite all the advances in nutrition over the years, it is virtually impossible to make a protein bar taste comparable to a candy bar since the high density of protein and relative lack of fat, carbohydrates, and sugars makes it difficult to engineer such a product. The Chef Jay's Tri-O-Plex Duo Bars are about as good as I've seen yet though, and contains a filled center which gives a boost of flavour in addition to a bar which would already be pretty tasty even without it. The bars do not go down as easily as chocolate bars, nor would I expect them to. I have to be honest - I have been so regimented in my diet over the past few years, that I find it very easy to eat large quantities of very boring foods, so while the flavour is a treat for me, I could just as well eat cans of tuna to get my protein and be just as satisfied. I like to try a variety of products in order to share my honest reviews of them on this website, and the Tri-O-Plex bars are no exception. I enjoyed the taste of the bars, and while I suppose there was some degree of aftertaste, I wouldn't have even noticed had I not been consciously checking to see. Often protein bars will leave a mild aftertaste and these bars do as well, but nothing that I think would really bother anyone.
Incorporating the Bars in a Complete Diet:
My recommendation for how to include these bars in your diet would be to eat them by themselves in between meals with whole foods, or eat them with a piece of fruit or another healthy and simple food item to create a simple and quick snack. Using the first example, you may wish to eat a bar between lunch and supper, or you may wish to eat the bar as your supper with separate items. This schedule assumes that all of your meals are small relative to portion sizes we are accustomed to - most people do eat larger meals for lunch and supper, but eating smaller meals is a good habit to get into.
I had no problem whatsoever digesting Chef Jay's Tri-O-Plex Duo Bars. I should point out that I have never had problems digesting any protein products, or for that matter, any bodybuilding supplements at all! Maybe I'm just lucky, but it hasn't happened yet, and hopefully never will. =)
Chef Jay's Tri-O-Plex Duo Bars get my recommendation. They taste good and contain the nutrition that I am looking for in a protein bar. I especially liked the density of calories and protein in each bar because some bars contain far less calories - as much as 100 calories less and a lot less protein. If you check below for purchase information and you will see that one box of 12 bars costs $22.99 which works out to $1.92 per bar. To me, this is worth it if you like TASTE. Personally, I like these bars, but could just as easily feast on a can of tuna or a Tupperware container of steak and rice! The steak and rice would take some time to cook though, and tuna tends to offend some people unfortunately, so some of you may be turned off by those choices. As always, never let supplements be the main part of your diet, as they should only "supplement" your diet as the name suggests. For those of you who like protein bars, I would bet on you like the Tri-O-Plex Duo bars. They are tasty and nutrient rich and everything that I want in a protein bar.
